On the fifth day of the “Holiday Program: Learning World Languages” on July 5, 2024, the primary objective was to enhance listening and speaking skills in English through watching a film and engaging in discussion. This program was designed to provide an enjoyable learning experience while deepening participants’ understanding of the English language and culture.
The day began with the screening of the animated film Over The Moon. The film tells the story of a young girl named Fei Fei who builds a rocket to fly to the moon to prove the existence of the legendary Moon Goddess, Chang’e. The film showcases Fei Fei’s magical adventure, filled with themes of courage, perseverance, and familial love. The stunning animation and emotional storyline make Over The Moon an engaging film for audiences of all ages.
Following the film screening, participants were invited to discuss the movie. Some participants might choose Fei Fei as their favorite character due to her bravery, while others might be more drawn to Chang’e for her beauty and legendary strength.
After the movie discussion, the participants were introduced to the diverse Self-Access Centers (SACs) including the Mandarin corner, German corner, Indonesian corner, and Arab corner. The introduction to the SACs aimed to spark curiosity and excitement for the next week’s activities that will be held alternately in those SACs.
Overall, the activities on the fifth day provided a fun and enriching learning experience, strengthening the participants’ English language skills through the activities of watching a film and engaging in discussion. The day was a resounding success, as the participants not only learned the language but also broadened their understanding of culture and life values.
