On May 8, 2024, Mim Yudiarto visited the Department of Indonesian Literature at the University of Malang (UM) to engage in a discussion and book review with undergraduate students. This event was designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the “taaruf” concept, often perceived as a safer and more respectable approach to initiating marriage. The roadshow promoted the book and facilitated an interactive forum for sharing experiences and perspectives on “taaruf”.
During the book discussion session, Mim Yudiarto presented the background and motivation behind the book’s creation. He elucidated how “taaruf”, which in Arabic signifies “acquaintance,” could serve as a solution for those desirous of establishing a marriage based on Islamic values and mutual respect.
The students were encouraged to actively question and discuss various aspects of “taaruf” including the introductory phase and the wedding ceremony. Many students expressed gratitude for the explanations, particularly for helping them understand the distinctions between “taaruf” and dating in cultural and religious contexts.
The roadshow aims to disseminate positive messages about the significance of initiating relationships appropriately and encouragingly. “The Taaruf Inspiration: ‘Tak Kenal Maka Taaruf’ by Mim Yudiarto, which was the subject of a book launch and roadshow,” serves as evidence that the book offers not only new insights but also inspires positive changes in the lives of many individuals.
